PLATO LAB COURSE RECOVERY AND REMEDIATION
Instructor: Mr. Jim Harrison
Our purpose is twofold; first to provide a means for students who for one or more reasons have missed a large amount of classroom time and secondly to discipline students for minor actions that do not require suspension from school. We hold course recovery and detention in an environment where the students will have access to the resources they need to work on daily assignments or back work. For those needing recovery courses there is access to an internet web based learning lab. The Plato Learning Environment (PLE) offers self-paced learning in all of the End Of Course programs at the high school. Not only is this a good tool for course recovery, but it is useful for self remediation where a student can go over material that may be a challenge for them. The PLE is a good study tool as well as a classroom teaching reenforcement tool. The real beauty is that a student with broadband internet service at home can access the PLE from home. A student wishing to use the PLE at home need only contact me with the content they would like to access and I will setup a custom study path to address the areas they request help with.

Semester end fast approaching!!
If you are over the limit for absences in a class or you are working on a 25 hour Plato contract, you need to be aware that the Dec. 20th dead line is closer than you realize. There are only 12 more afternoon sessions and 3 Saturday sessions remaining untill time is up! Don't get caught short. This has been going on for several weeks now, so there are very few, if any, acceptable excuses for not taking care of business. If you do have concerns you should bring them to the attention of the teacher in the class, an administrator, or your guidance counselor.

DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that a student who is willing to commit to spending just two hours per week in PLATO can raise their grade by a letter? How would you like to turn that C into a B or better? Extensive studies nation wide in schools where this is being done have proven this to be a fact. Yes it does require a committment, but these years spent in high school are four of the most important years of your life. Two hours out of the 112 non-sleeping hours you have is a very small .017% of your waking time and if you do the math remediation you will know how I came up with this number. Give it a try, you have very little to loose and a brighter future to gain!!
